Wanted DEAD: Purple Loosestrife, Phragmites, Garlic Mustard

Alger Conservation District has funds and work crews available this season to assist landowners with control of Purple Loosestrife, Phragmites, Garlic Mustard (and a few other invasive baddies) at little or NO cost to you. If you have these invasive plants on your property, call us as soon as possible to let us know and find out how to get assistance while this grant money is available. If you think you have invasive plants but aren’t sure, call us for a free site visit.
We can’t stop invasive weeds if we don’t know where they are…so please call to report infestations to our office, 906-387-2222. Thanks

Join our Stream Team!

We’re looking for a few good volunteers to help us monitor the critters in Alger County streams and determine the health of our waters. You can help us collect macroinvertebrate samples in the streams this spring and fall, sort them in the lab, or both. We’ll teach you all you need to know—no experience necessary!

Contact us if you’d like more information about our Stream Team.

Forest and Wildlife Management Assistance Program

The Forest and Wildlife Management Assistance Program of Alger and Marquette Counties promotes stewardship of forest resources on private lands. The program makes assistance available for wildlife habitat, timber production, tree planting, recreation, and forest health, as well as urban forestry and backyard wildlife. We provide on site consultation, basic written information, and referrals to other service providers free of charge. Management suggestions are based on sound resource science and the landowner’s goals.

We offer five basic types of service:
• On-Site Property Evaluations
• Information and Referral Services
• Presentations and Workshops
• Partnerships
• Cost Share Opportunities

How do I request assistance? Start by contacting our forester:

Matt Watkeys,
matt.watkeys@mi.nacdnet.net
Or call our office at 906-387-2222
